Hunter Lonadier named as TSC male Emil S. Liston nominee

Babson Park, Fla. (06/26/2020) — Webber International University is proud to announce that Hunter Lonadier of the Warriors' men's basketball team has been selected by The Sun Conference as the league's male nominee for the Emil S. Liston Scholar Award, which recognizes academic and athletic excellence by a junior basketball player. Lonadier is the conference selection and now is nominated for the award at the NAIA national level.

Lonadier, a native of Ocala, Florida, has posted a 3.87 grade point average in sport business management as a member of the Warriors' developmental basketball team.

Lonadier is a member of the Dean's List at Webber and garnered Sun Conference All-Academic honors this past season in 2019-20.

"Hunter's growth as a player over the past two seasons is unmatched by most in our program," said Webber's Head Men's Basketball Coach Gabriel Rutledge. "His hard work and effort will get him very far in life and there is no doubt in my mind that he will succeed."

Known as a 3-point specialist by his teammates, Lonadier is President of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) at Webber and volunteers at Christian Youth in Action as a bible club teacher, encouraging younger children to join sports and live a life of faith. He has represented Webber in national competitions as a member of PBL, and has helped fundraise for the club by organizing various activates and community events on campus.

Webber's Director of Athletics Mr. Darren Richie said, "Hunter is a dedicated student-athlete who has been an asset to the Warriors' men's basketball program. Hunter uses his intellectual skills and selfless attitude to give back to our campus by tutoring fellow student-athletes during his free time. Hunter represents Webber well and stands out as a leader both on and off the court."

This nomination at the Sun Conference level sends Lonadier onto the NAIA national competition for the Duer Award. Lonadier now will wait to see who the NAIA National Selection Committee picks as the national winner in mid-September.
