Men's, women's tennis both earn ITA Scholar-Team honors for second year in a row; 11 individuals named Scholar-Athlete

Babson Park, Fla. (07/31/2020) — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2020 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on Thursday, and both of the Webber International University men's and women's tennis teams earned Scholar-Team distinction for the second year in a row. Additionally, 11 individuals from the Warriors' men's and women's teams were honored as Scholar-Athletes, including three student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA this year.

The Webber women's tennis team finished with a cumulative grade point average of 3.72, the highest among all Webber teams for the second year in a row. The Webber men's tennis team, meanwhile, had the third-highest GPA among all Webber teams and had the highest GPA among men's teams at 3.57.

Isabelle Niehoff (4.0), Megan Warner (4.0), Svenja Koenig (3.91), Lily-Rose Rochat (3.9), Cheyenne Cannor (3.6) and Jenna Fosdick (3.5) of the Webber women's tennis team and Hugo Hasegawa (4.0), Marc Schneider (3.92), Matthew Alexander (3.91), Ivan Bondarenko (3.80) and Cyrille de Hollain (3.5) of the men's team were the individual ITA Scholar-Athletes representing the Warriors. It was the second straight ITA Scholar-Athlete honor for Hasegawa, Schneider, Bondarenko, Niehoff and Koenig.

The Webber men's tennis team was one of only 44 men's squads from the NAIA recognized as Scholar-Teams while the Webber women were one of only 46 teams from the NAIA. In all, 225 men and 290 women were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale) for the 2019-20 academic year. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
