Webber International University Has Record Year at Florida PBL State Leadership Conference

Babson Park, FL (03/25/2022) — Webber International University (Webber) students brought home a record number of state level individual, team, and university awards at this year's Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Florida State Leadership Conference (SLC) held March 17-20, 2022 in Orlando, FL.
Webber was recognized with the Largest Local Chapter Membership Award, a result of tremendous growth in membership for the 2021-22 academic school year. Webber also received the Pansy B. Read Gold Seal Award of Merit for community service for its Trick-ur-Trunk event, which is held annually in October for its students and community neighbors of Babson Park, FL.
Representing Webber at this year's SLC were 18 students who, having placed at district level competitions, competed in 26 performance, skill, and objective test events, winning 22 state level awards, and earning $1,450 in event sponsorship money. Of the eighteen students who competed, 12 students qualified to attend the PBL National Leadership Conference to be held June 24-27 in Chicago, IL.

In addition to the competitive events of the conference, students were able to go on business tours of companies across Orlando, learning about jobs within these organizations and going on behind-the-scenes tours. Businesses visited included AdventHealth, Gray Robinson - Attorneys at Law, Hilton Orlando, Orlando Venues (Amway Center), Valencia College, and Withum Accounting. The event also provided opportunities for Webber's students to network with college and university students from across the state of Florida, and to network with PBL alumni who now work for such organizations as the FBI and FDIC, who have started their own companies, and some who have decided to continue their educations in graduate schools.
Said Webber's President Dr. H. Keith Wade "We are extraordinarily proud of our students. We don't really have any easy majors or easy courses. The majority of our students play a sport. A lot of them work. Many volunteer in the community. With all the demands on their time that they and their advisor Dr. Joanne Muniz can find the time to put in the preparation to pull off this kind of performance is just inspirational. Say what you want about 'kids these days' ours know their stuff. It's just an extraordinary showing."
